Denver Local Collective of forward thinking musicians.
Hello, I’m Gabriel Gravagno. I am an active jazz drummer on the front range. I host the Friday jam session at the Mercury Cafe. I play standards and my own compositions, but also a broad range of styles and genres with a variety of bands in the area. I can bring a trio, quartet, or quintet to your event.
Gabriel Gravagno is the leader and founder of Messenger Music Collective, a consortium focused on playing jazz, latin jazz, free jazz, hip hop, and Neo- soul, with multiple iterations and lineups including jazz combos, RnB songwriter groups, and 8-10 piece bands. Messenger Music Collective is not a Band, but a community of musicians who believe in freedom of expression, communal ritual, and the connective and spiritual power of performing music together and appreciating, elaborating on, and making space for individual artistry as a part of the whole of community. Gabriel holds a performance degree from Colorado University of Denver, and has studied with Colin Stranahan, Todd Reid, Ari Hoenig, Allison Miller, Matt Wilson, Quincy Davis, Pat Bianchi, Buster Williams, and Tommy Campbell. He has played at Denver Venues such as, Dazzle, Larimer Lounge, The Bluebird, and the Brown Palace, and in Boulder, Muse Performance Space, and has featured in the 5 Points Jazz Festival. He has shared the stage with musicians such as Brad Goode, Jeremy Pelt, Charles Blenzig, Peter Stoltzman, Rob Kassinger, Gonzalo Teppa, Hugh Ragin, Harold Sumney, Dawn Clement, and Khabu Douglas Young. He believes in magic, muses, ritual and improvisation, and most importantly, the connective power of love, kindness, and friendship.
